Choosing a Baby Carrier

What carrier should I choose?

This is a tough question to answer! There is quite a lot to bear in mind before buying a carrier and everyone has different needs and preferences. It may help you to ask a few questions about your baby and your lifestyle to help choose the right one for you:

  • What age and stage is my baby at? Particular carriers can be optimal for different ages and stages. Stretchy wraps are fantastic with a lighter, younger baby. Buckle carriers and ring slings are great for the older baby that likes to be up and down with a moments notice.
  • Will the carrier be in use for shorter or longer periods of time? Ring slings are wonderful for short half hour trips out or the occasional snuggle; however a buckle carrier or woven wrap will be more comfortable for prolonged use.
  • How does my baby like to be held? If your baby likes cuddles "tummy to tummy" on your front then you have all options open to you. If your baby likes more of a view, consider a carrier that works for hip carries (ring slings and shorter length woven wraps can be fab for this) or back carries (woven wraps, mei tais, buckle carries worth a look).

Are baby carriers safe?

All baby carriers that we stock at Slings and Things, when used properly, are safe and comfortable for you and your child. However, before you use a carrier for the first time read through all manufacturer information carefully. Please pay particular attention to instructions on how to hold your baby, and ensure you follow the recommended weight/age limits.

It is also useful to remember the TICKS guidelines. The guidelines are applicable for all types of front carry and carriers. Keep your baby close and keep your baby safe.

  • KEEP CHIN OFF THE CHEST

Whilst you are learning to use your carrier, we recommend that another able adult is present with you, and that you position yourself over a soft surface to avoid any injury. When you feel confident using your carrier, please be sensible in what you do! For example, please do not cook whilst using it! Do not engage in activities such as cycling as carrying your baby affects your centre of gravity and your ability to balance. Also, be careful when leaning over with your carrier - use your hands to steady baby if necessary. If you have any concerns about the safety or health of your baby, then seek professional advice immediately.

When you keep this in mind, carrying your baby is a natural and safe alternative to buggys and pushchairs.

Can I try before I buy?

We do not offer a trial or hire service, however there are a large number of local Sling Libraries around the UK. If you would like to try a product or get advice on baby carriers, we would recommend visiting your local group.

Payment & Delivery

What payment options you you have?

At the checkout you have the option to pay via Credit and Debit Card through our payment processor, or via PayPal if you prefer. You can also pay towards the cost of an item using Slings and Things Gift Cards.

How do your Gift Cards work?

Slings and Things Gift Cards are essentially a unique code that can be entered by a customer at checkout to give them a discount to the value of the certificate. They are delivered by email and contain instructions to redeem them at checkout.

To make the certificate extra special, we would recommend emailing the certificate to yourself and then giving it to the recipient in a card or some other creative way. Use your imagination!

Are your transactions secure?

Slings and Things is hosted on Shopify Inc. They provide us with the online e-commerce platform that allows us to sell our products and services to you. Your data is stored through Shopify’s data storage, databases and the general Shopify application. They store your data on a secure server behind a firewall.

If you choose a direct payment gateway to complete your purchase, then Shopify stores your credit card data. It is encrypted through the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI-DSS). Your purchase transaction data is stored only as long as is necessary to complete your purchase transaction. After that is complete, your purchase transaction information is deleted.

All direct payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover.
PCI-DSS requirements help ensure the secure handling of credit card information by our store and its service providers.

Why doesn’t my Credit/Debit card work?

Most credit and debit cards are accepted by our payment providers. If you are having trouble using your card, try another card or contact your card issuer for more information. 

It is important to ensure that you enter the correct billing address at time of payment; irregularities (especially with postcode) will mean that your payment is rejected by our processor. Your issuing bank may temporarily hold funds in this situation but they will not reach us. Any queries in this situation need to be directed to your bank.

Do you charge VAT?

We are a VAT registered company (GB161881400) and charge VAT on all orders delivered to UK addresses and within the EU.

Orders to the rest of the world (including Channel Islands) are exempt from VAT; however this is not automatically deducted at checkout. VAT will be removed once your order has been processed -  providing the correct country information has been entered into your order. Please be aware local customs charges, duties or sales taxes may be applied upon import which are the responsibility of the buyer. To comply with trading laws, we will always list the correct value of any products on official paperwork.

Can I have a discount?

We don't blame you for asking, but we do not usually respond to individual requests for discounts.

Instead, we often run sales and promotions at Slings and Things and these are usually advertised directly on the site and via our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Follow us to keep up to date with any special bargains!

Do you deliver to the US/Canada?

Unfortunately we are unable to deliver to the US or Canada. 

Do you charge for delivery?

We offer free, fast delivery (tracked for orders over £30!) to all UK addresses, with low cost options to the rest of the world (excluding US and Canada). More details on our delivery prices are listed in our Terms and Conditions. 

 


Returns & Refunds

What is your returns policy?

Products purchased at Slings and Things can be refunded or exchanged subject to the following conditions:

  • A request for a refund or return is made within 14 days of receipt of your order.
  • The product is returned in an “as new” condition - with all original packaging and instructions.
  • The cost of return postage to b2boutique is initially incurred by the customer

​Should the above conditions be fulfilled we will refund your item value. Non inclusive postal charges (i.e. Royal Mail Special Delivery, UPS etc) are optional service charges and will not be refunded. Gift Cards are also exempt from refunds. More information is available on our Returns page.

How do I return an item or get a refund?

Returns are subject to our Returns policy. You can request to return an item by emailing us at hello@slingsandthings.co.uk. Please be sure to include in your email:

  • Your order number (this will be printed on the invoice you recieved via email, and packaged with your order).
  • The product you are requesting to return, and
  • The reason you are requesting to return the product.

We will respond as soon as possible to start processing your request.

Please ensure that you DO NOT return items without notifying us in advance, as you may not recieve a refund or exchange if items are damaged or missing in transit.

My item is faulty, what should I do?

If you have a concern about a product you have purchased from us, please get in contact using our online form or email us on hello@slingsandthings.co.uk.

Please be sure to include in your email:
  • Your order number (this will be printed on the invoice you recieved via email, and packaged with your order).
  • The product that has the fault, and
  • A description of the fault, including a photograph if possible.

We will respond as soon as possible to resolve the issue.


Rewards

Slings and Things are currently not offering Reward Points on purchases from the store. Any points previously accrued from Slings and Things or b2boutique will be converted into a discount code and emailed directly to existing customers. If you have previously collected Reward Points but not yet received your discount code, please get in contact.
